Tips for using the ProQuest Historical Newspaper (New York Times archives) database for finding headlines:
- Check “General article” on article types and uncheck other types
- Enter a year: Where you see Select, drop down the arrow by All Dates to Between, and put in Jan. 1 and Dec. 31 of that year.
- This will give you all headlines for the year. NYT is a newspaper of record, so it will give you world headlines. However, these are from the perspective of American journalists.
- Click on links. You may want to view pagemap version (link at top) to see the entire page. You can also browse page by page.
- **Printing must be done through the ProQuest print link. Otherwise you won’t get the entire ad or article.
